The Company
Overview
Performance is a key component of the training at HPSD. In 2007 we welcomed Tyego Dance Project (TDP) as the Company in Residence at the School and established Tyego Next Generation (TNG) as the School’s youth company and trainee program for TDP.
Members of TNG are dedicated advanced level students who are considering a career in dance or who like to perform. They take specialized classes taught by HPSD faculty members, attend weekly repertoire rehearsals, participate in extra curricular performance opportunities, and take master classes with some of Chicago’s finest instructors and dancers. Emphasis is placed on developing performance technique and learning what is involved in becoming a professional dancer. TNG company members have the opportunity to work alongside the Tyego Dance Project.
Tyego Dance Project, founded by August Tye in 1997, has received praise from critics for its inventive choreography and stunning dancing. TDP’s repertoire incorporates ballet, modern, jazz and performance art.
