"It is a real treasure to have such a production and such a school in our very own neighborhood."
HPSD Parent
Spring
Concert
Every year the Hyde Park School of Dance presents a lively Spring Concert. All classes are included, from Creative Movement to Ballet VI, Modern and Jazz. Participation is free, and there is no costume charge. The Spring 2011 concert will be held May 21 at King College Prep High School. Spring Concert information will be distributed to dancers and their families during Family Visiting Week in April. Visit our Spring Concert page for additional details.
Student Choreography
The training at HPSD includes more than just dancing. The School's emphasis on
original choreography offers students the opportunity to actively engage in the creative
process as they perform the works of their teachers and learn the art of choreography
themselves. HPSD students are encouraged to present their original choreography each
year during Student Choreography Showcase as well as during Spring Concert. This
year's Student Choreography Showcase will take place on May 6 and May 7 in Studio
1. Visit our Student Choreography Showcase page for a additional details.
The Nightingale
HPSD's newest ballet, The Nightingale, premiered at King College Prep on March 12 and 13. Based on the story by Hans Christian Anderson, this cast included dancers in Ballet II – VI and featured original choreography by artistic director August Tye and her team of artistic associate directors.
The
Nutcracker
The Hyde Park School of Dance presents a family-friendly production of The Nutcracker each December. A south side favorite, the show features 100 of the School’s students, guest artists, and a Pre Ballet Holiday Dance with some of our youngest students.

Alice in Wonderland
and Carnival of the Animals
In March 2009 we presented a special production of two of our most
popular children's ballets, Alice in Wonderland and Carnival
of the Animals, choreographed by artistic director, August
Tye.
Level
41
In 2008 we celebrated dance with a gala presentation of Level 41. This dazzling 20-year retrospective of choreography by artistic director August Tye featured guest dancers and musicians, as well as our own Tygo Next Generation youth company and HPSD’s company in residence, Tyego Dance Project.
Le Printemps
Sauvage
This special production featured our original one-act ballet for
children, Wild Things, as well as new works by HPSD faculty,
and selected student choreography.
