Nutcracker Participation Guidelines

Casting Policy:
Casting decisions are final and non-negotiable. Dancers or families disputing these decisions will not be allowed to participate. Dancers may be cast in multiple roles, serve as understudies, or be double-cast. In accepting their role(s), dancers commit to attending all rehearsals, costume fittings, and performances. Failure to do so may result in dismissal.

Steps for 2026 Nutcracker
Step One: Determine if your dancer(s) are able to accept their role(s).
Remember some dancers may be assigned to two or more roles or may have an additional understudy role.  All castings are equally important.  Check your dancer's rehearsal schedule and read the Nutcracker Info Packet to make sure you understand what's expected.

Step Two: Fill out the “Accept/Decline” Form.
Submit the Accept /Decline Form before rehearsals begin (Sep. 25).  If your dancer(s) is able to participate, then the next step is to pay the workshop fee.  If your dancer(s) cannot participate, that is ok as well.  There are lots of ways to be involved.

Step Three:  Pay the Nutcracker Workshop Fee Date Due: Friday, September 25.
The Nutcracker Participation Fee is $360. (Adults in party scene: $100).
A link to the payment (in iClassPro) will be included in the Decline /Accept Form w/ instructions in emails or can be found here. HPSD is a non-profit institution. The workshop fee helps defray the cost of our rehearsal faculty, costume maintenance, and performance logistics.
Studio Company Members (including Trainees) do not need to pay as the fee is part of your Company Tuition; Scholarship Families should enter their assigned discount code.

Schedules Rehearsals & Fittings:
See below.  All rehearsal and fitting times are subject to change. Updates will be posted and sent via email. Please keep careful track of you dancer(s) schedule.  Students cast as understudies must attend all relevant rehearsals and learn the choreography should they be needed to perform in place of the originally cast dancer.

Costumes, Hair & Make-Up:
As each Nutcracker role requires specific costume, hair, and make-up needs, please use this guide to ensure you're properly attired and ready to dazzle our audience.

Absences:
If your dancer absolutely must miss a fitting or rehearsal (up to 1), notify the artistic team in advance by emailing artisticteam@hydeparkdance.org with admin@hydeparkdance.org CC'd. Performances, dress, and tech rehearsals among other required occasions are mandatory.

(Coming soon) Student Matinee Form:   Give to your dancer’s academic school or teacher for their absence on the morning of Friday, December 11 to perform in the 10am and 12pm Student Matinee shows. (Note:  YD Holiday Pre-Show, Party Scene, March of the Toys, and Nightmare dancers DO NOT PERFORM at Student Matinees. )

Additional Performances:
Community performances may be scheduled, typically for Studio Company dancers, though select roles may be included.
